As we farewell 2019, and welcome the 2020 yearling sales, Woodside Park Stud would like to take a moment to wish all our loyal breeders and supporters the very best in the year ahead.

“On behalf of everyone at Woodside Park Stud, a very special thank you to all our clients in 2019, whether you sent one mare or ten to our stallions, or bought our bloodstock at sales, all the support is warmly appreciated.  May the New Year bring even greater successes in the breeding barn and on the racetrack to you,” – James Price, General Manager Commercial, WPS.

All set for next week’s Magic Millions Yearling Sales on the Gold Coast, the 11 yearlings, seven colts and four fillies have completed their preparation under the guidance of Matty Upton and are in great shape to begin parading tomorrow, Friday 3rd January.

“We are delighted with how the group as a whole have handled the preparation. Being such an early sale, it takes patience and an eye for detail to ensure they are all in the condition we desire. They have all thrived and are in the best shape they can be for the first sale of 2020. We will be presenting a variety of different physical types, something to suit all buyers, all carrying the stamp of approval from Woodside,” Upton said.

“The draft is very even, in that mentally, they all have exceptional constitutions, every one of them. They are even-tempered and good doing horses, that have taken on their education as yearlings with composure and confidence. I am excited to see them go through the ring.”

Lot 115 – Cable Bay (IRE) x Balmodena Filly

This impressive black filly is by Woodside’s first season sire, Cable Bay out of the Good Journey mare, Balmodena. Carrying a current pedigree, she is from the Group performing family of Masthead, Written Dash and Sizzling.

“She is one of two Cable bay fillies in our draft. They are both lovely and very similar types – two peas in a pod. She has been a straightforward, laid back filly to prep, quite speedy, with a good hip, typical of the Cable Bay’s,” Upton said.

Lot 116 – Rich Enuff x Balsamico Colt

A son of the popular Rich Enuff, he is a three quarter in blood to Masthead and Written Dash, out of the wonderful producing, Redoute’s Choice mare, Balsamico.

“He is a big, strong, speed horse. This is a proven cross, and his two-year-old full sister sold very well last year at the Magic Millions and is currently in work with Ryan Balfour. Precocious in type, he is good to handle, and has thrived during preparation.”

Lot 127 – Exceed and Excel x Bel Selene Colt

From the Bel Esprit mare, Bel Serene, a daughter of Cleopatra’s Girl, the dam of Mummify, he is from the family of black type gallopers, Ottoman and Isaurian.

“This high-quality colt has been exceptionally well received at the pre-parades, being a speedy type with great physical shape. Coupled with an attitude to match and a lovely walk, he will sell himself.”

Lot 293 – Written Tycoon x Factor Of Safety Filly

Out of the Encosta de Lago mare, Factor Of Safety, she is a half-sister to Warranty, from the family of G1 winner Gathering and G3 winner Florentina.

“One of my favourite fillies in the draft, she is a real athlete that goes about her work with purpose. Everything she has faced during her prep has stimulated her in a positive way. Combined with her pedigree, I look forward to how well she will be received on the coast.”

Lot 369 – Zoustar x Hautvillers Colt

From the winning Flying Spur mare Hautvillers, from the listed granddam Dame Cath, producer of G3 winner Red Lord.

“This Zoustar colt is an exceptional walker with a positive attitude. He takes it all in his stride, and his sensational action will be his selling point. There will be plenty of competition up on the coast, but he will certainly hold his own.”

Lot 665 – Pierro x Racy Colt

This black Pierro colt is from the winning Exceed and Excel mare, Racy from the family of Encounter, Atomic Force and Red Striker.

“A quality horse that has prepped up beautifully. Being by Pierro, he is a yearling that will need a little bit of time, but for anyone prepared to acknowledge that he will be a better 3YO, he will be an excellent buy. His time will come. A very nice syndicator’s horse.”

Lot 725 – Written Tycoon x Sarzameen (FR) Colt

By our champion sire Written Tycoon, this bay colt is out of the Siyouni mare, Sarzameen, from the French Group 1 performed family of Sarkiyla.

“A very precocious colt, with plenty of spunk, he has loved his time in preparation. He can mentally handle being in work, and for those looking for a speedy, early running type of horse, he will tick all the boxes.”

Lot 742 – Written Tycoon x Secret Doubt Filly

This outstanding filly is out of the winning Not A Single Doubt mare, Secret Doubt. Her dam, Covertly, was a G1 winner, that went on to produce listed winner Detective.

“For those buyers that are looking for a potential MM horse this time next year, she has the length, flowing walk and the right attitude. She will train-on as an early 2yo for sure.”

Lot 807 – Written Tycoon x Star Via Strada (USA) Colt

From the listed performing Street Boss mare, Star Via Strada, this colt is from a strong American family that includes G3 winner, The Tabulator.

“He was always an outstanding weanling, that prepped up well, with a good action and an athletic type. He will potentially be an early going horse, well-grown, with plenty of bone.”

Lot 857 – Vancouver x Tennessee (NZ) Colt

A striking bay colt from the first season sire, Vancouver out of a listed winner and G1 performed Per Incanto mare, Tennessee. From the family of G1 winner Dress Circle.

“He has prepped up exceptionally well. He is a lot like his dad, and grand sire, Medaglia d’Oro. He is very straight forward, and he loves his work. He is a nice, scopey horse.”

Lot 875 – Cable Bay x Tiz My View Filly

A lovely bay filly from the winning Snitzel mare, Tiz My View.

“A favourite on the farm and she hasn’t let us down. She is good looking, with a great hip, depth of girth and a wonderful great representation of our first season sire, Cable Bay.”
