Likely meet Despatch in the G1 Stradbroke Handicap, the Toby Edmonds-trained Tyzone highlighted the longevity of the stock of Written Tycoon, capturing his second back type victory in his last four starts as a 5yo.
Settling back at the tail of the field, the Blake Shinn-ridden gelding charged down the outside of the field to record a stunning win in the G3 BTC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben, and although an outsider in the betting, connections felt that the $60,000 Magic Millions 2YOs Horse In Training Sale graduate would acquit himself extremely well based on his recent form which included a narrow fifth behind another Written Tycoon stakes winner – the talented mare Sexy Eyes who will be offered for sale at the upcoming National Broodmare Sale.
With 16 wins from his 31 starts and over $700,000 in earnings, Despatch has been a great earner for his connections.
“It shows that Written Tycoons are sound and hardy racehorses. When you look at the amount of prizemoney we have here in Australia, when you have horses winning consecutive races, like Tyzone and Despatch, it shows Written Tycoon is wonderful for the breeders and wonderful for those who race the horses as well,” Price said.
