Sutton kicks off new season

Wadham Park’s trainer Dale Sutton opened his account with his first winner of the new season when the promising Commanding Spur won at Geelong Synthetic on Friday, August 20. Commanding Spur (by Flying Spur) improved from his handy first-start fourth at Bendigo to beat a smart field of maidens over 1000m. The 4YO gelding was ridden by stable jockey Stephen Baster ... there are more wins in store for Commanding Spur.

Woodside Park’s stallion Econsul (pictured) and Grey Swallow will stand in 2010 at an unchanged fee.

Econsul, winner of the 2004 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, represents tremendous value at a fee of $7700 (inc. GST). Last spring he covered nearly 100 mares, and his first crop averaged $46,000 at last month’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Econsul, by the outstanding Snippets son Pins, is from a mare by the champion stallion Centaine. Econsul is stamping his progeny with all this strength and athleticism. We are looking forward to his exceptional first crop going to the races next season.

The Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow’s 2010 fee remains at $9,900 (inc. GST).
