Wind Shear in a breeze

Wind Shear, one of the favourites at Wadham Park, broke through for his first Stakes win at Flemington on Sunday.
Wind Shear, ridden by Stephen Baster (pictured), finished strongly to win the Listed Auckland Racing Club Handicap (1600m), in his first preparation since trainer Dale Sutton’s decision to geld the 5YO.
“This is his first preparation since he was gelding, and we have noticed a big difference,” Sutton said. “It has turned his racing career around.”
Sutton said Wind Shear looks set to realise the immense promise he showed as a 3YO when he finished third to Schilling in the 2007 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) and second behind Heat Of The Citi in the 2008 Magic Millions 3YO Trophy (1400m).
“He ’s not a big horse, and he has been punished at the handicaps for his Group 2 placings. We have been wanting to step him up over ground and this looked an ideal race for him,” Sutton said.
Wind Shear gave Wadham Park its third Stakes win for the season, following La Rocket’s wins in the Group 2 St. George Stakes and the Listed Seymour Classic.
