Supreme finish for Sutton

Wadham Park’s trainer Dale Sutton finished his most successful season on a high note when Supreme De Lago scored an impressive win at Doomben on Saturday.

Supreme De Lago, an unlucky second at Eagle Farm at his previous start, came with a big finish from 10th on the turn to win the Ray White Handicap (1350m).

Supreme De Lago was Sutton’s only runner on the final day of the season.

Sutton finished the season with 53 winners in Victoria, plus seven in Queensland from a very limited northern stable – his 60 winners is almost double the 2008-09 season’s output of 32, a result that was affected by the equine influenza outbreak of 2007.

Wadham Park also recorded two Stakes winners – La Rocket (pictured), who won the Group 2 St. George Stakes (wfa, 1800m, Caulfield) and the Listed Seymour Cup; and Wind Shear, who won the Listed Auckland Racing Club Handicap (1600m, Flemington) on Anzac Day.

“We had a slow start on the season, but from the summer onwards we have really hit out straps,” Sutton said.

“Wadham Park built a good, consistent team of horses and we have some promising unraced 2YOs, including some impressive youngsters by Econsul, to run for us in the next season.”
