Royal Snippets getting close
Sep 07 2009
Highly-valuable mare Royal Snippets is getting closer to that all important Black Type win.
Her two runs from a spell in Group company have been bottlers without the rewards.
She resumed with a solid sixth, beaten only 2.6 lens, in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m), won by Cats Whisker, at Caulfield on August 15, but her eighth behind the same mare in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) last Saturday at Flemington showed she is not far off the mark.
Jockey Stephen Baster was forced to go back to last at the start from barrier 16, but Royal Snippets ran on strongly wide out to be beaten only 2.6 lens in a leader-dominated race.
“We only need to draw a good gate and she will be right in the finish of a race like this,” said trainer Dale Sutton (pictured).
Royal Snippets is a 5YO mare by Royal Academy from Snippets’ Lass (by Snippets), which makes her a half-sister to the outstanding Group 1 winning sprinter and young sire Snitzel (Group 1 Oakleigh Plate), and the top-class filly Viennese, winner of the 2008 Group 3 The Janz.
A Black Type win will make Royal Snippets one of the most valuable young mares in the country.
