Econsul’s impressive mares for 2009
Sep 15 2009
Promising young sire Econsul is covering an exciting band of mares in his third season at Woodside Park Stud.
Woodside Park’s bloodstock manager Dean Harvey said that the interest in Econsul has been very strong. “The third season can sometimes be the toughest for a stallion, but not so with Econsul, the bookings keep coming in,” he said.
“Econsul’s first crop weanlings, which have tremendous quality, strength and bone, have been so well received, that there has been a good spin-off this spring.”
Some of the mares booked this season to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner include:
- Scented – half-sister to Group 1 winner Rubiscent.
- Zip Zip – sister to Group 3 winner and top juvenile Husson Lightning.
- Dream of the Dance – dam of the Group 2 winner Dream the Dream.
- Barinya – half-sister to the brilliant Stakes-winner Queen Carey.
- You’re the One – half to Group 1 winner True Steel.
- Investment Grade – Anabaa yearling made 190K last season.
- Zals – Zabeel mare from the family of champion Might and Power.
- Barrier Reef – Last Tycoon mare closely related to Group 1 winner Bel Mer.
- Aussielle – Half-sister to Nova Star.
- Eve Ho – Half-sister to Group 1 winner Adam.
- The Legend – Danehill mare out of champion race filly Northwood Plume.
- Black Skirt – smart winner from the family of Grey Song and Show No Emotion.
Fellow Woodside Park resident, the multiple Group 1 winner Grey Swallow, also is receiving good patronage this season.
“I think his filly, from Crepe De Chine, selling for $30,000 at the Melbourne weanling sale made people take notice of this horse, who was such a great racehorse and incredibly priced at $9000 (plus GST),” Harvey said.
Grey Swallow will cover the magnificently bred Magicienne, a mare by Nureyev who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Marchand de Sable.
The Irish Derby winner also will serve a half-sister to former star stayer Sky Heights and Bel Whistle, a Bel Esprit half-sister to two Stakes winner.
