Foreplay lining up for more

Woodside Park  Dec 05 2011

Foreplay is doing an exceptional job getting his mares in foal this season, so much so that he has time and space for more bookings.

“He has got 15 of the past 16 mares we have tested in foal, so he’s doing a great job,” said Woodside Park’s bloodstock manager Dean Harvey.

“We took on more mares this season after his good return last spring following his stem cell treatment, but he has worked his way through the season very well. If any breeders are looking at a classy stallion at a very reasonable fee ($13,750), then Foreplay fits.”

Foreplay has come to the fore again recently in Queensland through the impressive performances of his son Havatryst, winner of his past two starts.

In the winter, Havatryst showed great promise when he finished second behind Steps In Time in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m, Eagle Farm), and he has returned from a 19-week spell in brilliant form.

He lumped 56.5kg to win first-up over 1200m at Eagle Farm on October 22 in a smart 1 min 10.28 secs, and improved further for a strong win at Doomben (1200m) in 1.09.78 on November 5.

Trainer Barry Baldwin is aiming Havatryst for the $100,000 Listed Keith Noud Quality (1200m, Eagle Farm) on November 26, the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Quality (1200m, Doomben) on December 10 and the $200,000 Listed Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m, Doomben).

Havatryst, from the Groom Dancer mare Conjugality, has won five of his 11 starts.

Meanwhile, Foreplay’s top-class filly Playtime returned to form with a solid second over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm last Saturday. The Group 1-placed filly also is headed for important races over the summer season, including the Magic Millions 3YO Classic (1400m) in January.
